BFC Academy GU18 won the National League Blue Division title

Beach FC Academy GU18 put themselves in a great position to qualify for the USYS National Championships after amassing a 3-0-1 record in the opening weekend of National League play in North Carolina back in November. The Beach FC side entered Las Vegas needing two victories from three games to win their National League Blue Division.

They opened up play against Legacy 97 Red (AZ) that eliminated the team from the USYS Region IV Championships last summer in Albuquerque, New Mexico. Beach FC found the net in the first minute courtesy of a Katie Pingel strike from outside the 18. Pingel doubled the Beach FC advantage shortly after the half and Ashli Villalobos tapped in from close range following a corner to extend the lead to 3-0. Beach then conceded a late goal as it finished 3-1.

An eager Beach FC side took the field on the second day of competition knowing that a win would secure a division crown and qualification to the National Championships; their opponent on the day was YMS Premier Wildcates (PA-E). Beach netted twice in the opening 20 minutes off an own goal from a corner and a Senna Brennan blast that snuck inside the far post. Beach added to its lead after half as Haley Noble tapped in from close range. YMS then capitalized on deep service from a set piece to bring the score line to 3-1. Ashli Villalobos rounded out the scoring late in the contest after being slipped through by Katie Pingel. The final score ended 4-1 and Beach FC clinched a spot in the National Championships.

The final day of competition saw Beach face two time defending National Champion DMCV Sharks. Sharks entered the match needing a victory to secure second in the group and an opportunity to compete at the National Championships. Sharks took a 1-0 advantage into half after flicking home from a long throw. They doubled their advantage just after halftime before Michelle Reed pulled one back for Beach FC. Beach conceded two more on the day after having opportunities to level the match.
