WPSL Undefeated National Champions

WPSL Undefeated National Champions

What started out three seasons ago as part of our club’s developmental model was crowned on Sunday as the best WPSL team in the nation.!

The Women’s Premier Soccer League is an independent highly competitive national league whose main focus is on the development of highly competitive premier women’s soccer teams. With over 70 teams participating from all over the United States, this is the largest women’s national league in the world.  Our Beach team is made up of current elite youth players from our club, as well as current college players and college alumni from local universities such as Long Beach State, UCLA, USC, LMU, U of A, UCSB, UCI, CSUN, and others, and a couple of former professional players.   This year with our club maturing, some of our top players were actually our very own club kids!

These exciting women got off to a fast start and never looked back.  They rolled undefeated at 12-0 thru the Pac-South conference which included the 2013 Defending National Champions San Diego Sea Lions and highly competitive LA Premier FC.  In Western Regionals, Beach defeated the North Bay Wave of Northern California 3-2 in the semifinal, and they thumped the storied California Storm 4-0 in the final.  This set up a trip to Maryland for the WPSL Final Four.

The team battled through the adversity and defeated two quasi-professional sides to claim the championship.  The semifinal was one of the toughest games of the year, as the Chicago Red Stars was a very good side, undefeated as well.  The game finished 0-0 in regulation, and we would have extra time.  In an incredible display of courage, desire, and flat out mentality, our women scored four goals in the first 20 minutes of extra time culminating in a 4-0 victory.  The players did their best to recuperate and be ready for the final at 1PM the following day, less than 24 hours from the end of the game.  They would be facing the undefeated and 2013 National Finalists Houston Aces.

As the team found out from the bench that our club won its second National Championship (U16 & U18 girls) during this game, the team could not be denied its opportunity for a third.  Nadia Link dribbled thru traffic and found a streaking Kristina Larsen who would bury the first and only goal of the match in minute 17 of the first half.  Beach stayed organized and managed the game with a lot of maturity to claim the National Championship.

The team finishes PERFECT with the best record in WPSL history at 16-0.  What a moment, what a team, what a season, what a club and what a day!
